Approval Of Project (ms-100) Proposal (with Synopsis), MBA - Project (MS100) approval Rating Options

It is mentioned in the MBA prospectus and Handbook that a project approval will be communicated within 8 weeks of receiving. However, many querries are seen on students not receiving the approval in time thereby spending one full semestar for the project results. When I contacted IGNOU Project department, the office bearer said that they wait for hundreds of requests to be received (300 as I was told) to take up for approval. Sounds contradictory to IGNOU's own policy. For the benefit of all I am attaching the project guidelines.

There are so many issues as I got to know. some of them are:
- It is not clear as to how many words a project synopsis to be submitted
- Many are confused about choosing a guide
- No response to the mails sent by the students
- Delay in receiving the approval or rejection
- Post project submission of project no clue on evaluation
- If synopsis is sent by post no intimation of PP number

I have included a poll here. Share your experience with the MBA Project. Kindly share your innovative way to deal with this or ways to tackle it for the benefit of all students.

I suggest, we should initiate our activities, at least 10 months in advance. As far as myself and my wife are concerned, we are appearing MS-100 in Jan-June 2009 session. We had first sent the Synopsis in the first week of October 2008; the same got returned back to us seeking clarifications / queries. Immediately the same was sent back to IGNOU on 07-Jan-2009, and approval for both us received on 25-Feb-2009. In all these cases, proper response from IGNOU i.e. within two months received.

Let us not take up the preliminary activities during the semester period, instead, we should plan semester period of six months plus four months ahead, thus ten months earlier, we should commence our activities.

You have a valid point of 10 months. However one can send the project proposal only after registering for the courses. I got it registered for Jan-Jun session only. Can you also share what kind of clarifications were asked..? just to have an idea

The Registration for a session commences eight months in advance. For example, for July-Dec 2009, it starts from 01-Feb-2009 to 31-Mar-2009. That is, for the session in which MS-100 is to be registered, we should be ready with all requirements of DD, application etc. and submit latest by second day of the month in which re-registration starts. I have enrolled to MS-100 for Jan 2008 by paying 2000rs.
But is that valid now also? Can I use the same and complete my project OR do I need to pay again?

I paid my project fees in year 2008 but could not send my project proposal yet due to non availability of Project Guide. Can you help me to get any projrct guide or suggest if we can choose the project guide from our company / corporates in HR/ Recruitment.

PLease suggest whether i should pay the fee again or its not required.

I want to finish the project ASAP, as almost all the papaers are completed only MS-95 result awaited.

Hi Vikas ji,

1. The Project Guide should preferably be an existing Counsellor at IGNOU Study Centre.
2. What is your specialistion? The Project should be from your specialisation only.
3. Guides other than IGNOU, should have the approval first from IGNOU, which may take at least one year. So dont get into this as you will stand to loose valuable time.
4. When did you register for MS-100 (i.e. the semester session)? The Registration is valid for four semesters only.


You can go through the following which will help you in successful accomplition of MS-100. (A file is also attached for your information and reference. )

During the last academic semester Jan-June 2009, myself, my wife Nandini, Shri U Krishnamurty, Shri Oommen Varghese have submitted our Projects well within the time. We have pleasure to tell you that we all have done with utmost sincerity in a planned way. With this we have gained good experience and confidence in preparation and submission of projects. Further to the above, I have made a graphical presentation as how to approach and successfully accomplish the project well within the time. Following aspects have been considered for doing the Projct (Split into three Stages):- STAGE 1 - Conceptual

• First submit your Re-Registration for Fifth & Final Semester, preferably on the first day (i.e. 01-Aug), so as to save time. (See IGNOU Prospectus - you should have re-registered for MS1 to MS-11; MS-91 & MS-95, for re-registering MS-100)
• Identify your Best Guide (only from specialisation and approved by IGNOU ), preferably from your city/town/Study Centre. (The Guide cannot guide more than five students at a time)
• Identify a topic for MS-100, in consultation with your Guide (being expert, he suggests you a good topic). Prefer a project which could be done on your company. This will facilitate you to gather inputs (primary / secondary)
• Once a topic is finalised, prepare a Synopsis, which will be got signed by your Guide and to be sent to IGNOU for approval.
• Send the Synopsis on or before 10-Aug-2009 (for Jan-June 2010 session)
• Approval of Synopsis takes bare minimum TWO MONTHS.
• After the above, you can concentrate on your balance courses - Assignments/ TEE.
• In case your Synopsis gets returned seeking queries / clarifications, you should re-submit the same (again STAGE 1 process to be followed).. Again from the date of receipt of your revised Synopsis, at IGNOU, two more months time will be required for approval of the Synopsis.

STAGE 2 - Gathering Inputs / Data / Survey

• After you receive the approval of Synopsis, you will also get a Project Proposal Number from IGNOU.
• By this time, you would have just completed your Semester exams and be ready to commence the project activities viz. gathering inputs, conduct survey, visit to places (wherever required for Marketing / HR Students).
• Once you complete the above process, you can concentrate on Assignments of Final Semester.

STAGE 3 - Project Submission

• Commence your Project compilation Activities preferably on 01-Apr-2010, since, you will require considerable time to devote to the project and simultaneously you have to do assignments and study for TEE as well. That is why take full month to review the project.
• Analysis of Data, Compilation and Presentation of Data in the Project.
• Ensure submission of your Project on or before 30-Apr-2010.
• Go back to studies for Final Semester TEE.

Thus, the total duration of ten months is required for the project so as to complete without any loss of time. Hope this will be useful to you. All the very best.

The Registration is valid for FOUR SEMESTERS. In your case, it is
Jan-June 2008
July-Dec 2008
Jan-June 2009
July-Dec 2009

So there is absolutely short of time. First submit your synopsis on priority; simultaneously, seek approval from IGNOU that whether your re-registration is valid upon submission of your synopsis for approval. Don't delay. You can also see my detailed reply to Vivek Gupta about MS-100

I have submitted my project synopesis twice. Frst one was in the year 2000. For which I followed but i could notb get any claridfication on the same. Then I again submitted the same in 2010. When I enquired from the project division that they have already approved my old synopesis. Now I agin followed up with the school but they have not replied back.

I have completed all my courses except MS 100. The time perios for the completion of MBA is over. Now what all I have to do. I want to complete my project by June 11. As the project is complete and I am waiting for synopesis apporval.

My enrolwment is 940154569.
Please guide / help.

I have got the confirmation of speedpost. But yet I have not received approval status from ignou even after 2 months.
