Reg. Ms-51 Re-registration Options

Hi,

I have registered MS-51 by June-2010 session. I couldn't take up exam for this paper till Dec-2011 semester. The validation got expired for this subject.

I am planning to re-register for MS-51 by July-2012 semester. But this subject cannot be register in July semester.

Can I register for any other Operations Management paper instead of MS-51 by July semester? Or do I need to wait and register MS-51 by Jan-2013 semester?

It is the process of Re-Admission not Re-Registration


Once the course is opted You cant change the course now. You have to wait and take Re-Admission for MS-51 for JAN-JUN 2013

session. because,

Change of Course is permitted within one-and-a-half month of the commencement of the Programme

(i.e. by 15th Feb and 16th Aug for First and second semesters respectively) on a payment of Rs. 500 per course.


your case Course Validity is Expired, so no provision for doing other courses. you have to take MS-51 only.

I think it is permissible. It is not necessary that Jayachitra has to stick to MS-51 only. The course can be changed by not taking re-admission; instead by taking the route of re-registration to a new course.

The concept of change of course is applicable when a student has registered for the maximum of four courses (or less number of courses) in one semester and then desires to change one or two out of them in which case the rule is :-

"Change of Courses: A learner has to indicate in the Admission Forrn/Re-registration Form, the courses he/she is opting for. However, request for change of courses will be entertained within one-and-a-half month of the commencement of the session (i.e. by 15th February and 16th August for first and second semesters of the year) on payment of a fee of Rs. 1000/- per course through Demand Draft drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at the city of the Regional Centre. The application should be addressed to the Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre of your region."

However, in the case of Jayachitra, the validity of the registered course has already expired and it is not necessary that the same course should be opted for 're-registration'. The specialty of management program of IGNOU is that you can take any number of courses (subject to the limit of four courses per semester) during the validity of your registration. This enables you to do MBA (with one specialization stream), and all the PGDSMs if you so desire. However, the MBA specialization will depend on the first course from the specialization area you chose to re-register.

So I believe there is no embargo on choosing another course from Operations Management. However, I strongly recommend if Jayachitra can visit the study centre once and discuss the issue with the coordinator.

Anil..., I won't think it is permissible....


In case if she takes some other course in operations management. then what will be shown in the status in her

Grade Card for MS-51 (Which is already registered). I think, it will be showing as "NOT COMPLETED".

Dear varadharaj,

The subject shown as incomplete does not make a difference since these are electives. As soon as five subjects are completed, the student will be eligible for post graduate diploma in the particular specialization stream. Once again, this particular phenomenon is applicable to programs where course wise fee is charged for registration. This is not applicable to BDP/BCA/MCA etc where semester wise fee is charged. In the management program you can register for any number of courses during the validity of your admission subject to the rule that you can register for only four courses at a time.

This is also one of the reason why IGNOU has adopted the procedure for course availability for semesters. Now, Jayachitra, if she cannot register for MS-51, has to forgo one complete semester just for the registration of a single subject. However, instead of MS-51, she can choose a different subject from Operations stream.

However i think more deliberations and consultations are required for this issue. i shall revert if i find out more on this.

Today i visited my RC Bangalore, and i met Asst. Director. and she said that, "IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO TAKE EITHER RE-ADMISSION

FOR THE SAME COURSE OR RE-REGISTER FOR SOME-OTHER COURSE IN THE SAME SPECIALIZATION".


Now, i hope it is very clear to take decision for Jayachitra. Make it hurry, because you left-with couple of days for Last date For submission.
